Unit 30 P2

BITMAP AND VECTOR GRAPHICS…

The two main types of graphic types used are vector and bitmap graphics.

Bitmap graphics are made up of very tiny pixels and these are usually all different colours in order to make up an image. The image usually loses quality when enlarged. They hold a large file size as the computer has to store information on each pixel in the image. Bitmap graphics can be created using software’s such as Adobe Photoshop.
On the other hand Vector graphics are made up of shapes that can be edited separately. When these images are edited and enlarged they do not loose quality and they tend to have a small file size, they don’t take up a large amount of memory.

FOR A BROCHURE:

Both types of graphics can be used for a brochure. Bitmap graphics are best to use when using photographs, such as photos of students taken by a digital camera, and vector graphics can be used when creating things such as logos. To ensure the bitmap and vector graphics are kept separate the file should be saved as a PDF.

FOR A WEBSITE:

For the school website it would be mainly bitmap graphics used as there is likely to be lots of photographs such as photos of departments and photos of students from the school. Although it would mainly be bitmap graphics, there is use of vector graphics for background patterning and the greenwood dale logo. This would be saved as a JPEG or a GIF to enable everyone to view it on any browser or web.

FOR A VEHICAL:

For Vehicles the only graphic that would be used is Vector as the image is able to be enlarged without losing quality.
